Generating nitrogen on-site brings significant advantages for a wide range of industries and applications—including metal fabrication, laser cutting, food packaging, breweries, and distilleries. Compared to relying on nitrogen tanks or cylinders, on-site nitrogen generation offers five major benefits: lower overall cost, no waiting time, guaranteed purity, enhanced safety, and improved environmental performance.
Contrary to the term “generation,” nitrogen generators don’t create nitrogen—they concentrate it. Since ambient air is composed of approximately 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, and trace gases (CO₂, argon, water vapor), the generator removes the excess non-nitrogen molecules to produce high-purity nitrogen.
There are two key technologies for on-site nitrogen generation:
1. PSA (Pressure Swing Adsorption)
This method uses Carbon Molecular Sieve (CMS) to selectively adsorb oxygen from the air. Nitrogen molecules, being slightly larger, pass through and are collected. PSA systems offer high reliability and produce nitrogen with purities up to 99.999%, making them ideal for high-demand industries.
2. Membrane Separation
This technology uses hollow polymer fiber membranes with micropores that allow smaller molecules like oxygen and carbon dioxide to diffuse more quickly, enriching nitrogen. Membrane systems are compact, low-maintenance, and produce nitrogen with up to 99.5% purity.
Your Ideal Temporary Nitrogen Solution
If your site faces temporary nitrogen demands, FOOEN Specialty Rental offers containerized on-site nitrogen generators tailored for rugged environments. Our PSA generators use imported molecular sieves with ultra-low air-to-nitrogen ratios, ensuring energy-efficient operation and cost savings.
Our seasoned engineers also provide on-site training, regular inspections, and can be deployed full-time to ensure safe and uninterrupted nitrogen supply for your operations.
