3,600 kg/day! World’s Largest Hydrogen Refueling Demonstration Station to Be Built in Beijing

August 8 — The press conference for the Beijing Sino-Japanese International Cooperation Industrial Park and Daxing International Hydrogen Energy Demonstration Zone was held in Beijing. The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and Beijing Municipal Government jointly proposed the development of the Sino-Japanese International Cooperation Industrial Park in Daxing District.

At the event, the People’s Government of Daxing District signed cooperation agreements with Tsinghua Industrial R&D Institute and other construction partners, marking the official launch of the Hydrogen Energy Demonstration Zone.

The first phase of the Daxing Hydrogen Energy Demonstration Zone will include the construction of a hydrogen refueling station with a daily capacity of 3.6 metric tons—the largest in the world. Additionally, an existing facility will be renovated into a Hydrogen Technology Experience Center, which will integrate exhibitions on hydrogen society, research achievements, enterprise products, hydrogen development history, temporary exhibitions, and multifunctional spaces.

The project will also include the development of a “Hydrogen Spring” science and technology park, integrating R&D, testing, production, and living facilities under one unified concept.

Accelerated Timeline for National Fuel Cell Demonstration City Initiative

Seizing the opportunity presented by Beijing’s bid to become a national demonstration city for fuel cell vehicle (FCV) promotion, the project aims to complete construction of the hydrogen refueling station and experience center by the end of this year, and to complete overall transformation of the hydrogen industry park by the end of June next year.

The project will collaborate with institutions such as the Tsinghua Industrial R&D Institute and the China Hydrogen Engineering Center (Key Laboratory) to establish a Hydrogen Industry Innovation Center.

Leveraging real-world applications such as the Beijing Daxing International Airport and JD.com’s “Asia No.1” Logistics Hub, the initiative will explore commercial deployment of fuel cell vehicles in airport shuttle buses and urban logistics, and promote broader application in public transportation, sanitation, and municipal services.

A Complete Hydrogen Ecosystem

Hydrogen energy is a strategic high-tech sector for the Tsinghua Industrial R&D Institute, which draws on Tsinghua University’s research resources and global innovation networks. After more than a decade of technological innovation and industrial incubation, the institute has developed a complete hydrogen energy industry chain, including:

  • BinHua Group – Hydrogen production from chemical byproducts
  • Hyper – Renewable energy-based hydrogen generation and operation
  • Shanghai Shenli – Hydrogen fuel cell stack manufacturing
  • SinoHytec (Yihuatong) – Hydrogen fuel cell powertrain R&D
  • Shuimu Tongda – Hydrogen transportation and mobility services

This integrated approach demonstrates China’s strong commitment to hydrogen as a clean energy source and its growing role in shaping the future of transportation and sustainable development.
